Torture: I'll take a blog and keep posting and posting...

With apologies to the Wu Tang Clan, the above title is referencing Andrew Sullivan's propensity to both blog about his opposition to torture by torturing us with his blog.

Immigration Reform: Don't Just Do Something, Sit There

There is a lot of stirring and restlessness over the immigration bill. I can't help but to think that a big problem here is that there is a rush to do SOMETHING - "see American population, we did something" - sure there are guys in the background pushing for it: McCain wants to show the general population that he can stand up to the Republicans, never mind the primary ramifications; Sure Kennedy wants to do anything to establish a legacy other his various misdeeds as a youth, even if that is a far left agenda that will be bad for the country. But generally everyone else just wants to do something, so they get on board.

I wish they'd just do nothing.

p.s. a few simple steps to meaningful immigration reform:

1. border security - first and foremost control our borders, its a national security effort

2. reform of legal immigration - the best want to come here, and we should find a way to enable that, in a manner that identifies those who want to assimilate

3. have the debate about what to do with current illegals

Having the debate about number three first was cart leading horse.
